Breezing Up by Winslow Homer 1876.

Three young boys and a fisherman weigh down the starboard side of a sailboat as it tacks against the breeze. This painting evokes a sense of childhood, fresh air and summers. It was made on the same year that Mark Twain wrote Huckleberry Finn. Homer is considered the leading American representative of naturalism, the realistic depiction of the contemporary world.

Many say, a man is a boy many years ago;
Others say, a boy is a man many years later,
And somewhere between he is a boy, and a man, too;
But I'd rather say, once a boy, a boy forever.
